The Ministry of Consolation or the bereavement ministry, respond in an organized manner to the needs of people grieving the death of a loved one (s) in their lives. The General Introduction of the new Order of Christian Funerals states: “The Church calls each member of Christ’s Body – priest, deacon, lay person – to participate in the ministry of consolation: to care for the dying, to pray for the dead, to comfort all who mourn.” They console those who have suffered the loss of family or friends through death, and assist them in their journey of grief.
