Thank you for all who shared your memories and expressed their condolences and offered prayers for Fr. Reid. Some very personal and heartfelt comments are here:
Fr. Reid Thank you for giving your hands to concentrate the holy bread and for giving all that you have to work for God’s kingdom. Also all the great advice and wisdom and support you have given me, When I needed it. May the perpetual light shine upon you, Rest in peace Fr.Reid. Minerva Castillo
Father Reid fell down one day outside the church just before the mass he was to give. I physically lifted him up and he went on to perform the service that day. After hearing about his passing today I started to remember all the times he picked me up spiritually with the inspired faith of his homilies. We have lost a gentle soul and a treasure in this community. At every mass Father Reid expressed how he was honored to perform service for us, but how honored we were to have him for our parish priest. God bless Father Reid. Randy Gunther
I would like to say how special Fr. R. Michael Reid was to my husband Victor and I through many years as a dear Priest and friend. His visits to our home and in the hospital to Victor were special. Fr. Mike bringing us the Holy Eucharist during Victor's illness were the best.Fr. Mike always came no matter what medical facility we were at. He guided us through many difficult times due to illness .and anointing I can never say enough times or in words how comforting his prayers were for us always.A shared meal or just sitting with us helped us through end of life assuring me that the Lord was always with us.
Fr. Mike was always a servant of God and will remain in our prayers. Never was there a kinder Priest or friend. Fr. Mike has been a blessing to us. May the Lord, the Angels and Saints welcome him. Frances Marchel
I was in grammar school at St. Mary's in Roslyn during Fr. Reid's first assignment. Everyone there knows that he played basketball at lunch and other times with the students. There is a Facebook group for our grammar school, and when news of Fr. Reid's passing came to us this week, it garnered many, many responses --- most from people who haven't seen or spoken to Fr. Reid in 40 or 50 years. I think that says volumes about the impact Fr. Reid had on kids in his very first assignment. Such a wonderful man. Barbara Quinn
I only got to know Fr. Mike in the last couple of years as he graciously came to Maria Regina Residence to celebrate Mass on Thursdays. Fr. Mike was a wonderful warm presence who made everyone feel welcome and comfortable. His celebration of Mass was always a calming and refreshing time for us at Maria Regina. And we always enjoyed talking to Fr. Mike after Mass when he would stay and share a meal with us. Fr. Mike was truly a great Priest and man and will be missed very much by everyone at Maria Regina. We know that he is now at peace with God. John Kiernan
Father Reid I will miss you so much I know you over 20+ years I was introduced to you by my cousin Kevin Moran, who you were very close with who also passed you loved to go out to eat at our favorite place on Merrick Road in Lindenhurst, and you always order your favorite dish mussels with linguine
I will miss those times together. You always brought me prayer cards and you gave Dave and l a beautiful, beautiful cross which I have hanging in our dining room. Every time I look at it I will think of you.Father Reid I will miss you. In my thoughts and prayers.P.S. Say hello to Kevin. Linda Ortado
No words can fully express the impact which Fr. Reid has had upon all of us here at St. Ignatius. He was an extremely humble man who did not realize what he meant to me and many others. Once I joked with him that his "fan club" was lined up. It was the children waiting patiently to have their religious ed papers signed to show that they had attended Mass. He just shrugged my compliment off. I know that it meant the world to him to be able to continue to come each Sunday to celebrate Mass with us. Another example of his concern for all people was when he read his "list" of intentions during the Prayer of the Faithful. I often thought that Fr. Reid must keep a pencil and paper nearby when he read the paper or listened to the news. He included many, even famous people who had passed away. I know that Fr. Reid is now in Heaven and I'm sure he is watching over and praying for all of us. May He Rest in Peace! Mary Ann Lang
I give my condolence to the family, Lord let the perpetual light shine upon him The Lord say ! the one who eats my flesh and drinks my blood live with eternal life and i will raise him up on the last day Fr. Reid I will always remember you forever thank you for being a great inspiration how to be faithful to the lord I will keep you in my prayers!!! rest in peace Fr Reid and pray for me in heaven.Luis Castillo
St. Mary's was Fr. Reid's first parish and many of us were his "firsts." 50+ years later Fr. Reid is still respected and loved my all of us. Rick Boddie
I remember fond memories with Fr. Reid. When I was a scholar at the DLS school in Freeport, he’d occasionally preside at the 12:10 p.m. Mass at Our Holy Redeemer. He will always be remembered for his short homilies but detailed explanations of the part of the Mass we were up to. Though his passing saddens me, I know he is experiencing the God he served in His eternal glory. Rest in Peace, Fr. Reid. Krys W
A true priest's priest. Humble, kind. May have not have seemed to know you, but you would be surprised. , he was fully aware and caring of people he came into contact even once. I recall his wonderful addendum to the universal prayer ( of the faithful). It was as if Fr. Mike had read the newspaper and encouraged us to pray for God's intervention into a mishap across the globe or across the street. You may not have realized it, but if he came into contact with you even only fleeting, he was sure to remember your name and ask about you. Always with an angelic smile. We missed him when he left Holy Family, still do. Couple of memories of dear Fr. Mike.
1) up until he was unable to, he would always help out at the Holy Family festival. Usually selling those tear off raffle tickets, wearing a baseball cap (mets I think) to shield him from sun. How could you pass by without getting a ticket from him?
2) On a more personal note, at my son's ordination 3 years ago, he was there. It's not unusual for priests to attend ordination. In fact there must have been over 100. But at that time, he was in frail health. He was not in the Procession leading to the altar at St Agnes. But after Mass, we saw him sitting where other priests were. And he had that beautiful, calming smile and a wink.
Understated magnificence. Rest in peace Fr. Mike.Marcel Catafago

My Mom has known Father Reid for 50 years. He has been a big part of our family.
Here is. Picture of Father Reid visiting my family at Christmas time.
We loved having him over for lunch.
He would always come bearing gifts for all my kids and made a grab bag for The kids to pick treats. Father Reid, we will never forget you!
